A Modern Office for the New Year
I love the new year. I want to redo all the spaces, clear all the surfaces and organize, organize, organize. This past project from 2016 has got me groovin' on clean, modern office spaces for 2017. This commercial space revamp was a whirlwind for us at Catherine French Design. The client needed a weekend overhaul with a super tight timeline. Out with the old, in with the new! We started with the board room, pairing white modern rolling task chairs with this gorgeous table from Lexington. The black mini blinds came down to open up the view to the green ivy outside, and a large colorful canvas print went on the wall to brighten the space.
The office suites are all on the bottom floor of the building and had the feeling of being truly a basement space. We again removed the mini blinds to showcase the ivy, and introduced small succulent plants into the space. This connection to nature has been shown to reduce stress in the workplace. The CEO's office received a frosted window treatment to allow for passage of light while maintaining privacy. Creating a sense of connection and community was important for this client in the reception area and beyond. Furniture pieces for the reception area were selected based on form and materials. Fabrics for the sofa and two side chairs had to blend with the pre-existing carpet. The coffee table, side table and console tables all picked up the black accents of the window mullions. Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams really came through for us here, all five pieces were floor samples sourced through Beyond Blue in Raleigh.
For the CEO, we brought the blues of the company brand into the office. She wanted clean, modern lines, a la the office of her favorite character from The Young and The Restless! We chose varying materials to bring warmth to the space through wood tones, soft fabrics, and a marbled glass door storage console. This office space needed hidden storage solutions, and several smaller zones for working, reading, and meeting one-on-one or in small groups. Moving clutter into the large console allowed for the emphasis to be on a few family photos, a large colorful painting, and a lovely sculptural lamp.
One of my favorite touches was this addition of this canvas gallery wall to their long, empty corridor. There are seven international locations for this firm, and we added a black and white print of each city to the wall. The employees loved this touch.Happy New Year, y'all!
